What to Wear : Maternity {Reader Request}

Untitled #63

Dress
weekend: jacket | necklace | bag | boot
work week: jacket | bag | bracelet | shoes

So excited that one of my readers reached out to ask for some ideas on what to wear via my Facebook Fan Page. She also happens to be walking around 5 months pregnant. YAY! When Analiese was in my belly, busy sticking her feet in my ribs, I stayed comfortable in stretch jersey, maxi dresses and fun jewelry. I NEVER looked better. Seriously, I put more thought into what I looked like while wobbling around.  I found this basic maternity dress at Old Navy. What I love about it, aside from the simplicity that allows you to work with a blank canvas, is the color. It is fresh, fun and full of life...just like the mom-to-be wearing it! On the weekend, try it with a denim jacket or even an unbuttoned chambray shirt with moto boots. It gives it that cool factor while adding a bold necklace keeps it chic. Wear it again Monday morning to the office or even to lunch with friends with ballet flats and a blazer. The juxtaposition of polka dots and stripes is a bit daring but keeping them both in black and white makes it work perfectly and roll up your jacket sleeves to reveal a stack of bracelets. I did that a lot, I layered every gold bracelet I could find. Hope this served up a little inspiration. I'll be sure to share a bit more soon. Enjoy your weekend.

It's Springtime on Gilt

Even though the streets in Chicago are still covered in snow and despite the fact that my toddler and I spent over an hour playing outside today, I cannot wait much longer for Spring. It is not the heat I am after but Springtime in this city is one of the best. And with that comes a lot of walking. How else would you look cute and be comfortable if it wasn't for the classic espadrilles, wedged of course?! If you love this iconic shoe style, be sure to thank the Spanish brand and family by the same name, Castañer. You can also thank YSL (yes, as in Yves) in commissioning the first wedge back in the 1960's with the brand's current designer, Isabel CastañerCastañer has been making espadrilles since the Spanish Civil War. Now that is a long time to stay on top considering this style comes out every Spring, year after year and every year we welcome it with open arms. While, I love the originals, it seems that buying it at full price right now would throw off my budget.

What is that?

Oh, the are going on sale in the US on Gilt tonight at 9pm?

Oh, why didn't you say so.

Budgets at ease, this one will be a breeze, only a slight dent. This was to be my post for tomorrow but let's be honest, your size will be gone by then. Time for some online shopping. You're welcome.

Find out more about the brand here.

I was not compensated for this post and will be buying my own pair with my own money. Okay, maybe not my own money but with the hubs money but same thing right?

Coffee & Conversation: What to Wear

Coffee Date #1

coat | top | sweater | pant | scarf | socks | bag | shoes | jewelry

This is a great example of what to wear on a coffee date since one thing my husband and I are doing on a regular basis is going out on coffee dates. It is not the fancy, romantic idea of dating you see on TV but for us it works, we deal in real life. We do the fancy dinner thing but since our date nights are weekly, we opt for something simple like coffee and conversation. It is friendly on the wallet and more relaxing. It is something that I enjoy a lot and look forward to. We are able to sit down, unwind, and talk about  where we would like to travel, current events, politics or my husband's favorite topic, religion. Yes, I talk about more than just clothes and lip gloss. Not to mention, after a long day of work (usually wearing all black), I get to come home and change into something fun and no baby means I can wear heels. What do you date nights consist of?

12 Pieces To Upgrade Any Wardrobe {Part 2}

So yesterday, I showed you 6 of my 12 pieces to upgrade my wardrobe and hopefully got you thinking what you can add to make better use of what you already have. Here are my remaining 6 must have pieces for a more stylish wardrobe .

July: Shorts

I'm not a fan of my legs. I have never been. I have gotten so use to wearing jeans, maxi dresses or even cropped pants that even the extreme heat that causes my clothing to stick to me has stopped bothering me. This year I say fudge* it. I need to be comfortable when hanging at the park with my little one.

August: A Bright Tote

I plan on going to the park a few times a week and the beach on Sundays. I need to carry a lunch for my family, snacks, wipes, change of clothes for all and I no longer carry a diaper bag. I want a tote. I want a big colorful tote.

September: Pant Suit

Nothing says power or in my husband's eyes "sexy" like a tailored pant suit. While I am not the corporate type gal, I still believe every woman should own one. Knowing myself, I would style it with a bit more edge and most likely wear it with sneakers.

October: Black Booties

Some may see this as a trendy thing and a lot are. I am looking for a classic pair to wear with skirts for work and jeans for play. I'm looking for a classic piece that still turns heads.

November: Long Leather Gloves

I've wanted a pair for as long as I could remember. The pair by Brian Atwood during the Target/ Neiman Marcus collaboration made me fly out and snatch them up. After bringing them home I found that I didn't love them that much for $50 and I returned them. Sure wish I found a pair now that they are 70% off.

December: Amazing Statement Necklace

This is the season that year after year women indulge in their love of all things sparkly. I will too.

Wish me luck as I try to find a reasonable deal for my monthly must haves otherwise my husband might just find that divorcing me just might be cheaper. What do you think your closet needs this year?

12 Pieces To Upgrade Any Wardrobe {Part 1}

This is the month where we make resolutions that usually never make it past March. In fact, the gym is usually empty within the first 5 weeks of the new year. While I vowed to shop less this year, I am a realist and know that cutting it out completely is not doable. Instead, I will shop smarter and focus more on things my closet needs and ways to upgrade my own style. Every month, I will focus on one item that could be an instant update to my wardrobe.

January: The Tweed Jacket/Sweater

This classic piece will be great for everyday. I could wear it with jeans for the cool factor (as pictured above) or with a little black dress for a more professional approach.

February: Amazing Trousers

I wear pants more than I do anything else and sometimes jeans just won't cut it. Finding a pair of trousers that are not only comfortable but a pair I won't want to take off will be tough but I'll take on the challenge.

March: The Non-Mom Jean, Mom Jean

Ignoring the fact that I just said "sometimes jeans just won't cut it," I'm going in for a new pair of jeans. I live in the same 3 pairs and while I love them, this mom just needs another she loves just as much and in a different wash. Right now it seems I wear the same pair everyday (and sometimes I do).

April: Light Weight Sweater (In something other than black)

It is right around that time where I feel silly wearing these bulky sweaters when I can smell Spring in the air. Unfortunately, taking in the fresh, Spring air sometimes makes you shiver or even cough. So something light weight but still long sleeve will do. I also have nothing in my closet like this so much needed.

May: Boyfriend Button Down

Yes, the classic white shirt, blah, blah, blah. I need one (a new one at least) and I want one just a bit less fitted and a bit more relaxed. Style tip: I can wear as a beach cover up in the upcoming months!

June: A Day Dress I Can Live In

The one I can wear with jewels for date night, keds to run errands with my little one or with barefoot to sit on my balcony on Sunday mornings. Yes, I dress I won't take off.

Join me tomorrow for part two. What do you think so far?

Prabal Gurung for Target: Will We Love the Price?

video via Style.com

Prabal Gurung for Target is not new news. In fact, Fashionista had been sharing that rumor with us since 2010 but late last year (yes, because it was so long ago) the official announcement about this long awaited collection finally came. However, with the failed success of the Neiman Marcus collection which so quickly was marked down to 70%, I question this new step for Gurung. I am an avid Target shopper and a typical one at that, one who is looking for a bargain. The question here is did Target forget who their shopper is? This isn't a question as to whether or not the collection would be good because we saw the images with the stunning Olivia Thirlby but whether or not the price is right? Will this collection be as worthy as Missoni for Target or another epic fail like the over priced Neiman Marcus collection?

Style Stealin': Ms. Olsen

source unknown (please correct if need be)

1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6

I'm so glad the twins have been over that beggin'-for-change look. At this point, I'll rock anything these girls would wear or endorse. They serve up some great style inspiration.

I was not paid to say these things but if Elizabeth and James or StyleMint want to give me a job, I'll take it. Just saying'.

Wear What: V-Day

Girls Only

First Date

Wife Status

I love Valentine's Day but I don't think you have to be so literal in how you dress that day. Here are some great style alternatives for any occasion whether you will be spending the day with just the girls, on a first date or enjoying dinner with your husband like I will be. Anyone have special plans for their special day?

Baby Style

Baby Style

Analiese is in need of more "going out" clothes, you know, for all the times my toddler goes out to party. She has tons of super cute casual clothes to wear on playmates and to visit family but she needs more fancy frocks for birthday parties and "fancier" activities. I was able to pull a look together from River Island for my little princess. The stroller of course is Maclaren. Hers is grey but this mom is going gaga for stripes lately.

WorkWear

WorkWear

I haven't been feeling productive and I seriously think it is because I have been slacking on getting dressed and keeping my work space in order. I'm on a neon kick including yellow, my least favorite color, and stripes. I think playing dress up even to sit at my home office/desk in the corner, would make everything much better. What do you think?

NYE Glam

NYE Glam

Glam it up this weekend but what do we do Monday when we are left with an over abundance of glitter, the gleam of the holidays is over and the gloom of winter sets in? Sparkle anyway. I for one plan on continuing in this sparkling extravaganza that has become of me. The over the top sparkle dress that most feel you can only wear that one time can easily be paired with a slouchy sweater and skinny jeans so all you see is a hint. Isn't a hint of sparkle all we need to take us over and make us happy anyhow? So throw on that sequined mini, the glittered top and bring in 2012 as bright as can be and do it again the following Sunday even if just to sit at home and watch football...like me ;)
