Day Off

 The greatest thing about living in this city is being a native. I am not being snobbish, I am being grateful. I have my family a jump, skip and a hop away from I90. My sister in law and her husband just bought a home in South Barrington so we have been spending a lot of time there but on this special day, we all went downtown and played tourist. Doesn't she look great for having two kids, the youngest not even a year old?! A walk to the beach, lunch at Navy Pier and bit of shopping on the Ave made this day great. The boys were with us and the kids were with the sitters. We started the day so excited that we finally had a day without the kids but were racing home by the end because we missed them so much.

When someone says you are wearing too much make up, feel bad for them for they know not what fun is! This also applies when they comment on how short your skirt is, how high your heels and point out that whiskey bottle that is falling out of your purse. The latter is a joke, sort of. Happy Tuesday because we need some humor early on in the week. 

Kid Kicks

This is not my kid but she could be. My 8 year old niece lives for tutu dresses, skinny pants and in typical Chicago girl fashion, fun high tops. Yes, she could be my kid.

Style @ Home

I have a closet full of clothing. It is not all designer nor do I wish it to be. Maybe back when I started my career, I dreamed of designer duds, high heels on set and the red carpet glamour that is fed to high school students during career day by the “one” who works in the industry. I will admit, when I started that was me. I worked 8-12 hour days in 4 inch stilettos and pants so tight you can hear my thoughts. No that doesn't make sense but neither does how tight they were. I was sexy and super cool, so I thought. Well, it has been well over a decade since then and one pregnancy later, I finally discovered what the difference is between "fashion" and style. I've embraced the comfort of denim and while I can still rock those same stilettos, I've grown fonder of wedges and even more in love with flats. When working on a photo shoot I find, jumpsuits made of jersey cotton to be best. When doing make up events, a fine tailored blazer with flats do the trick and when at home writing and playing with my child nothing can ever beat comfort. You see, those that truly embrace this industry can make it look glamorous in the glossies but behind the scenes we are just like everyone else, schlepping away during long hours with sweat on our finely combed brows. I'm sure you expected a gorgeous outfit of the day but I left my Oscar De La Renta gown in my other bag. This is my outfit today, a simple jumpsuit from all places, Sears. 

Lazy Girl Hair

No time to blow dry or in my case, no time to get those ends trimmed? No problem. A simple french braid, a head band and voila, chic summer hair in 2 minutes or less. Everyone say Amen, that gives us an extra 10-20 minutes before work to sit and enjoy our espresso.

Guilty of Feeling Guilty

Well, it is Motherhood Monday right? I'm going to side track for a bit and get personal on a personal blog, the audacity I know. I really love my child. Some days I feel guilty for only having one, others I feel guilty for only wanting one and the days in between I am driving myself nuts with this back and forth. Truth is, I just got my body back. I like it, I loved being pregnant, I did not like the aftermath. Sounds vain but in all honesty, Analiese just started using big girl pants and it seems like it is finally getting easier. I may also just be using this excuse so I don't feel like a failure if and when the Dr tells me I can't and that she truly was my only shot. After five miscarriages prior to her and well, ahem, more after, the question of "when are you having another?" is just too much sometimes because my own fear won't let me get past it all. At the same time, something (one) is missing. I guess she just needs someone else to jump on the bed with.

I am in love with matching my manicure and pedicure. From what I hear, it must be a Chicago thing though lately I have been more into matching my lipstick to my nails. I love this bubble gum image that I pinned recently but now I may have to try this orange lip and this nail color. What do you think? 

Life

Bad, bad blogger. I've had way too much radio silence as of late. Just when I thought taking the summer off would be a great idea, life and everyone else had different plans. One possible job offer rolled in, followed by another and by Saturday, 2 more. The good life isn't cheap so off to work I go. I've been working like a...a...a, ah don't know, just a lot and my free time is filled with watching my baby ride a bike, swing at the park or hanging around the city eating everything in sight with my little family. I will learn one day, the power of organization, blogging will come easy and you will love me that much more. Until then, time to pull the "mommy blogger" card and annoy you with pictures of the coolest kid on the block!

Dim Sum {Tuesday Toes}

So I finally got my first pedicure of the season. I tried a place by work, wasn't crazy about it but it was convenient so I gave it a shot. I do, however, love this shade by OPI Dim Sum Plum, it is awesome and dim sum.
